Care For Sensitive Skin (No Comments)

The number of people around the world suffering from sensitive skin seems to be increasing an atmosphere full of potential toxins from our industrial progress but what does it mean exactly when you say you have sensitive skin. For most people the definition is quite clear when their skin becomes hyper-sensitive to products they use, the atmosphere, anything they apply to their skin or even wear; the result of which is normally irritable skin that can even be swollen and red. If the skin does become hyper-sensitized in this way, special products that are able to be applied called sensitive skin care products have to be used.

There are a variety of sensitive skin care products available owing to the fact that not everyone that has hyper-sensitive skin has the same problem. One thing that is almost constant though is the way sensitive skin will almost always react badly to any type of detergent and any products where the formulation is chemical based.

The problem arises because it may take some time before the condition is recognized for what it is.Where a person has skin sensitivity this will obviously become apparent more quickly than someone who does not share this type of skin condition.

The way to prevent the problem is with the formulation of sensitive skin care products and known compounds and ingredients which have shown they might be responsible for skin irritation are removed or reduced dramatically. It may seem obvious, as most skin care products are formulated to help protect the skin, but only use products that are actually marked for sensitive skin use and if you are unsure, check the ingredients listing to see if there are any specific warnings you should be aware of.

The rule of thumb here is, if you are unsure what to choose, purchase the ones with the least chemicals (if any), colorings or additives in them. Wherever possible, avoid any type of cleanser or toner as they are almost invariably alcohol based.

The procedure if washing is to be done is protect your hands with rubber of other type of protective hand wear as detergents are one of the biggest skin irritants. Before entering out into the sunlight, which can be another skin irritant, it is advisable to apply a formulated sunscreen that will not irritate the skin either.

Avoiding exposure to dust and other pollutants is also important for sensitive skin care so cover yourself adequately before going out but you can use a hypoallergenic moisturizer as a skin care product if there is none specifically labeled for sensitive skin. Use soap-free and alcohol free cleansers and cleanse your face whenever you return from spending time out doors but do not scrub or exfoliate too hard as it can cause reddishness and even inflammation.

Never leave makeup on for extended periods and wherever possible use hypoallergenic makeup removal products that will not make the skin worse. So as you can see there is much more to consider when looking after sensitive skin, and it is more about being careful with your skin both in terms of sensitive skin care products and protection against environments affects on skin.
