Phytoestrogens, a plant based estrogen-like substance, is present in soy foods and often mimic estrogen, the reproductive hormone. One such phytoestrogen present in soybeans is that called isoflavone. Studies have shown that these isoflavones may reduce a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer.
Many professional organizations along with the FDA are looking at the relationship between healthy soy products and the probability of them helping prevent breast cancer and other hormone-related cancers.
Another Side of the Picture
Dr. Takeshi Hirayama at the National Cancer Research Institute in Tokyo conducted one of the largest cancer studies in medical history. Over 120,000 people were monitored for decades. One of these studies investigated the risk of breast cancer based on the women’s intake of fat via meat, eggs, butter and cheese. Bottom line; the more of these foods consumed the greater the risk of breast cancer.
Those who consume meat on a daily base are almost four times at greater risk of getting breast cancer than women who eat little or no meat. Likewise, as eggs, butter and cheese consumption goes up so does the risk of breast cancer.
Start Now with Prevention
The sooner good eating habits begin the better. Cut back on meat, eggs, and dairy products and introduce soy. Soy foods are no longer just for vegetarians. Soybeans, soymilk, tofu and other soy products are receiving world recognition for their healthy and healing characteristics.
